Car enthusiasts and pop culture often have very strong opinions about car colors. While red is the most frequently celebrated hue, with a host of artists from Prince to Rush singing its praises, there is also a case to be made for white, an often-maligned choice of paint color. It’s true that white is harder to maintain, especially in harsh climates where cars are more likely to get muddy and dirty, and it’s also true that cheaper compact cars frequently come in less-than-flattering shades of white, which give the car a decidedly “dentist’s office” sort of vibe.
However, some models do have the ability to look truly stunning with all-white paintwork; whether it’s conveying a classy, understated image, or showing off performance features in a hypercar, sometimes white is the best choice to make when selecting a paint color. Here are 10 cars that look simply amazing with an all-white finish.
1 Toyota GR Supra
The first on the list is the Toyota GR Supra, Toyota’s flagship sports car and the bearer of an illustrious nameplate with a long history. Although, in the world of pop culture, the Supra has been associated with the color orange thanks to the influence of the Fast and Furious franchise, white is an extremely popular color for this model, and has a long association with high-performance Toyotas. The WRC Yaris sports a mostly-white livery, dotted with colorful accents. The shade of white used in the GR Supra is called Absolute Zero, and comes with optional accents such as differently colored side mirrors.
2 Porsche 911
As far as sports cars go, the Porsche 911 is one of the less aggressive-looking, in-your-face models, even in GT3 guise: with its sweeping lines and round headlights, it sneaks past the eye in a way that doesn’t immediately reveal its performance. This is one of the reasons why, although loud reds and vivid blues are also a popular choice, many 911s are finished in more low-key, classy colors such as gray, dark blue, or white. The latter makes the car’s features pop out, emphasizing its lines and creating a classy look.
While in the past the white shade of choice for a Porsche was Glacier White, in recent years the brand has moved onto a shade called Carrara White. No, it’s not a misspelling of Carrera; the name comes from a town in Italy renowned for its high-quality marble.
3 Lamborghini Aventador
Lamborghinis are most often known for their vivid color options. From neon greens to sunny oranges, there is a whole rainbow of hues available for Lamborghini drivers, and white is not usually the shade people associate with the Italian brand. However, many Lamborghini models do look great in white, for a slightly more subtle, less boisterous look. One of these is the Aventador, whose sharp, angular lines are either enhanced or softened by the paint color they’re paired with: a loud, cartoon-like yellow or blue emphasizes the aggressive, in-your-face design, while an all-white paintwork makes the finished look sleek and elegant.
4 VW Golf GTI
While white often gets a bad rep as a choice of color for small cars, this is mostly due to the low quality of the paint and the poor choice of shade in cheaper models. This is very much not the case for the Golf GTI, whose white finish (dubbed Pure White) looks striking and stylish. A white paintwork also provides a nice contrast with the car’s interior: the only choice of color for the Golf GTI’s cabin is Titan Black, which is featured on the dashboard, steering wheel, carpeting, and upholstery. The white finish balances out the darkness of the interior and makes the car appear bigger.
5 McLaren P1
McLaren is one of those automakers that have built a decades-long association with one particular hue, in their case the iconic Papaya Orange. The eye-catching shade is omnipresent in the company’s branding and frequently chosen by customers for its models. However, there is a world of colors out there that also suit the sleek, sweeping lines of McLaren cars, such as the iconic P1 hypercar. White is one of these colors; a gorgeous all-white P1 went up for sale in 2015, proving why white can be the perfect hue for this rare hybrid creation. Sometimes less can indeed be more.
6 Ford GT
When most people think of the Ford GT, blue is the first color that comes to mind. Thanks to decades of advertising centered around the color, and the brand’s own nickname “the Blue Oval”, the association between Ford and Blue has become rock-solid. However, there are other options out there for those of us lucky enough to be considering the purchase of a Ford GT. White is a color particularly suited to the GT’s silhouette, showcasing every air intake and aerodynamic feature. A white paintjob also highlights the contrast between the GT’s body and the numerous carbon fiber parts fitted onto it, further cementing its image as an ultra-high-performance car.
7 Bugatti Chiron
While the Bugatti Chiron looks great in most colors, the simplicity of white works very well to offset the rich, complex lines of its bodywork. This gorgeous example, finished in Glacier White, looks tasteful and understated (well, about as understated as a Chiron can be). Its well-trimmed interior complements the paintwork, making the Chiron appear luxurious and plush rather than cold and sterile. There are no colorful accents to distract the viewer’s eye, either: the carpets are black, as are the brake calipers, and a minimalist silver mesh grille completes the look. The car was previously owned by rapper Post Malone, before being sold in 2022 with just under 600 miles on the clock.
8 Ferrari Enzo
This next model is kind of an odd example, seeing as only one was ever finished in white. This unique 2003 Enzo was built as part of what Ferrari calls the “Extracampionario” series, a bespoke program aimed at the most elite customers. Finished in May 2003 by Maranello’s technicians, the Enzo is the only one of its kind to come with a white paintjob from the factory; the striking shade was given the name of Bianco Avus (Avus being a Latin word loosely translating to “ancestor” or “forefather”).
While the original client who commissioned it was based in Switzerland, the Enzo was eventually sold to a buyer in Hong Kong, where it was looked after and regularly serviced for two decades before being sold at auction in 2022. It’s a shame that more Enzos were not given this finish, as it suits the model’s lines beautifully and creates the ultimate retro look.
9 Lamborghini Countach
Continuing on the retro theme, another classic car that looks amazing in white is the Lamborghini Countach. The white finish makes the futuristic, aerodynamic shape of the car stand out; when designing the Countach, Lamborghini had moved away from the more rounded lines that had characterized cars such as the Miura, and was now experimenting with angular, sharp lines and wedge shapes: the result is undeniably striking, and even more so when painted in white.
The Countach was one of the most memorable automotive style icons of the 80s, and white cars were extremely popular throughout the decade, so a Countach with an all-white finish (such as this one, which also sports a white leather interior to match) is the ultimate period design combination. A white Countach also made an appearance (and met its demise) in a memorable scene from The Wolf Of Wall Street, further cementing the car’s status as a symbol of 80s yuppie culture. The crashed car, along with an undamaged one also used in the film, was sold at auction in 2023.
10 BMW M2
It’s hard to deny: most BMWs look good in white. For the purposes of this list, we will look at the M2, the brand’s sporty coupe that packs a lot of fun in a compact package. The M2’s clean, elegant lines are enhanced by BMW’s signature shade, Alpine White, which is available as a free paint option on most models in its range, including the M2. It’s a very tasteful shade, giving the car a clean look that’s icy and cool without crossing the line into looking clinical. It’s also one of the most popular choices of color for a new Bimmer (although the fact that it’s one of the default options available might help with that).
