1954/55 Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow To Be Displayed At ModaMiami

There’s a new car show heading to Miami this March. Hosted at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, the inaugural ModaMiami show is a multi-day event comprised of over 150 of the world’s rarest machines. Ahead of the event, the show organizers have unveiled that a 1954/55 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R “Silver Arrow” grand prix car previously raced by Juan Manuel Fangio appearance.

The storied race car lives at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany but will cross the Atlantic to join a collection of multiple vehicles from the brand to be featured. These include five 300 SL Gullwings, two 300 SL Roadsters, and a 540 K Special Roadster, which previously won Best In Show at the Pebble Beach Concours.

This specific W 196 R is an open-wheel Grand Prix car that won its first race at the 1955 Dutch Grand Prix, piloted by Fangio. It’s powered by a 2.5-liter eight-cylinder engine that develops between 256 and 290 horsepower depending on its configuration and can propel the silver single-seater to speeds of up to 186 mph.

ModaMiami aims to curate collections from various important manufacturers to showcase their most significant cars for the multi-day show. It’s scheduled for March 1st to the 3rd, with tickets currently available.
