GMC will reportedly add bi-directional charging capabilities to the already-long list of standard features on the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV, reports Automotive News.
MY2024 variants will benefit from upgraded 19.2-kilowatt Level 2 charging on specific model grades. This will enable the vehicle to charge faster and send up to 6 kW to other electric cars. Bi-directional charging would come in handy in emergencies, with Hummer owners now able to assist motorists who have depleted their EV batteries.
“You could not effectively take power from the battery in this vehicle and put it into another vehicle,” explained Aaron Pfau, the lead development engineer for the reborn electric Hummer. “The 19.2-kilowatt charger [and] Level 2 AC charger that we have on board, that is really the key change that enables this.”
