2024 Peugeot 5008: Everything We Know About The New Electric And Hybrid SUV

While compact and subcompact SUVs dominate European sales charts, midsize options are gaining popularity as family-friendly alternatives to the now, essentially, extinct minivans. The Peugeot 5008 stands out in this category, offering a blend of practicality and charm, making it the slightly less-known but more versatile cousin of the best-selling 3008.

With the official debut of the new 5008 set for August 2024, we’ve assembled all the juicy details we have about its design, technology, and powertrain options, complete with a sprinkle of speculation in the form of renderings based on our recent spy shots.

More Room For Differentiation

Starting with the exterior, the next-iteration of the Peugeot 5008 is poised to borrow some of its style secrets from its smaller sibling, the 3008. Picture the same sleek headlights with triple LED fangs and Peugeot’s signature grille with that fade-out pattern. But don’t be fooled – the rest of the 5008 is its own show. It’s got a longer rear, a taller roofline, and a straight-cut tail. With the 3008 having evolved into a fastback-style coupe SUV, the differentiation between the two models will be more intense than before.

According to our sources, the Peugeot 5008 is expected to measure over 4,700 mm (185 inches) in length, surpassing its predecessor’s 4,641 mm (182.7 inches), and closely aligning with midsize SUV rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and the Renault Espace. By way of comparison, the E-3008 measures 4,540 mm (178.7 inches) in length, resulting in a significant difference of at least 160 mm (6.3 inches) between these sibling SUVs, primarily due to the extended rear overhang of the 5008.

The expanded footprint will result in a more spacious cabin and increased boot capacity. Just like the current model, Peugeot will offer five- and seven-seater versions, covering the needs of larger families. plans to offer both five- and seven-seater versions, catering to the needs of larger families. On the flip side, the dashboard is expected to be shared with the E-3008, featuring the 21-inch curved Panoramic i-Cockpit display, a compact-diameter steering wheel, and premium materials. The same applies to the safety equipment, which includes the latest ADAS technology from Stellantis’ parts bin.

Shared Underpinnings, Hybrid And EV Powertrain Options

Peugeot E-3008 Interior

The all-new Peugeot E-3008 introduced the STLA Medium architecture, which will serve as the foundation for numerous next-generation models across the Stellantis brands. As expected, the Peugeot 5008 will utilize an extended version of this platform, taking full advantage of its advanced technology and compatibility with multiple powertrains. We already know from our scoop reports that the new Peugeot 5008 will be available in both fully electric and hybrid guises.

Peugeot plans to offer two versions of the fully electric E-5008, one fewer than the E-3008. The base EV variant is expected to feature a smaller 73 kWh battery pack paired with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 207 hp (157 kW / 210 PS). Additionally, a long-range version will be available, equipped with a larger 98 kWh battery pack and a more potent 227 hp (170 kW / 230 PS) electric motor. If you’re curious about the dual-motor AWD configuration seen in the E-3008, it appears that the E-5008 won’t feature it, as the extra motor would encroach on rear space.

The most budget-friendly ICE-powered variant of the 5008 is anticipated to feature the carry-over turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder with the 48V mild-hybrid system, delivering a respectable 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS). Power is sent to the front axle through the e-DCS6 six-speed automatic gearbox, which incorporates a 28 hp (21 kW / 28 PS) electric motor.

Finally, there are reports about a plug-in hybrid version bridging the gap between the mild hybrid and the battery electric trims. This would be a first for the 5008 as the current generation never inherited the PHEV powertrain of other mechanically related SUVs.

Judging by Peugeot’s marketing strategies, it wouldn’t be a shocker if the automaker releases the first teasers several months ahead of the 5008’s scheduled debut in August 2024. We also anticipate getting more details about the ICE-powered lineup when the Peugeot 3008 counterpart joins the E-3008 lineup sometime next year.

Note: These independent renderings are unofficial and have absolutely zero ties to Peugeot.
