2025 BMW 2 Series Debuts With Luxury And Tech That Belongs On Something More Expensive

BMW’s compact coupé has received a refresh for MY2025. The 2 Series Coupé hits the scene with updated exterior styling, new paint and wheel options, and new technology. The range comprises four options: a four-cylinder 230i and a six-cylinder M240i, both available in rear- and all-wheel drive.

The engines remain unchanged and continue to produce respectable power outputs. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the 230i has 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both models can race up to a top speed of 155 mph with summer tires. The 230i hits 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, with the xDrive variant shaving 0.2 seconds off the claimed time.

Engines Are Unchanged, But That’s Okay

The M240i is considerably quicker. The sonorous 3.0-liter six-cylinder B58 motor – one of BMW’s finest engines yet – sends 382 hp and 369 lb-ft to the drive wheels. 0-60 mph is dispatched in a rapid 4.5 seconds, but specifying xDrive brings that down to 4.1 seconds – just two-tenths slower than an automatic M2 and a tenth quicker than the 2024 M2. As with the 230i, the top speed is limited to 155 mph (with summer tires). All models make use of an eight-speed automatic transmission. Whereas the upgraded 4 Series and 3 Series ranges receive a mild-hybrid setup for the M40i variants, BMW has elected not to share this heavy technology with the 2 Series Coupé.

When the 2 Series first appeared in 2021, the polarizing styling was not to everyone’s taste. The facelift attempts to address this with subtle changes. As always, the coupé will be available with the M Sport Package. This is standard on the M240i and optional on the 230i. This kit introduces larger air intakes in the front bumper and muscular side skirts, while the rear fascia benefits from unique reflector lenses and a diffuser-aping insert.

More Paint Colors, New Wheel Designs

Customers can specify the M Sport Professional Package, which introduces M Shadow Line lights, extended Shadowline exterior trim, and a black M Sport rear spoiler. M Sport brakes (standard on the M240i) are also included. 230i models are offered with red or blue brake calipers, while the M240i receives red calipers. There are also new paint colors to select from. Vegas Red metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic have been added to the palette, alongside two new BMW Individual colors, Frozen Pure Grey and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic. Additionally, the M240i is now available with Zandvoort Blue, a shade previously exclusive to the M2 and no other Bimmer.

New wheel designs are also available. Updated 19-inch alloys are now optional on both models. The M double-spoke wheel can be specified in Jet Black or with a bi-color finish. BMW Individual Y-spoke wheels are offered exclusively with a bi-color look. Inside, the 2025 2 Series Coupe gains several revisions. The 230i comes with a two-spoke steering wheel with a polygonal rim. The updated 2025 3 Series has already previewed this.

Updated Interior Pushes The 2 Series Further Upmarket

If you prefer something sportier and more traditional, the M leather steering wheel – standard on the M240i and part of the 230i M Sport Package – gains a flat bottom, a red 12 o’clock marker, and redesigned spokes. The contrast stitching is done in the BMW M tricolor. Customers now enjoy standard front-seat heating, too. Regarding the upholstery, the perforated SensaTec can be specified in the new Tacora Red. Vernasca leather upholstery is also available in four hues. There are more trim inlays than before, with the new Fineline Light Open-pore and Ash Grey Blue Open-Pore Fine wood trim now being offered as an option for the 2er. Only the M240i is offered with carbon fiber inlays.

The introduction of the BMW Operating System 8.5 has enhanced iDrive. The system can be controlled via voice command or touchscreen. As with other recently upgraded models, iDrive now has a new home screen with a permanent map display and new widgets positioned on the driver’s side of the screen. BMW says the new menu structure makes it easier to navigate through the menus, allowing the driver to focus on the road. BMW Live Cockpit Professional and an Augmented View function for navigation are available.

When Will It Be Available?

The interior of the 2025 2 Series Coupé benefits from the BMW Curved Display, which consists of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The climate controls have been relegated to the touchscreen but can also be controlled via voice activation. The nine-color ambient lighting now has a waterfall lighting feature integrated into the center air vent covers. BMW says the 2 Series Coupé will be launched in August 2024 and will continue to be built at the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
