2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter: New Smaller Battery Lowers the Price


  • An 81.0-kWh battery option is new for the electric Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, cutting range but still offering enough for daily delivery needs.

The battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter had its debut just a few months ago, but it and the regular Sprinter already are being updated for the 2025 model year. This full-size van keeps its 170-inch-wheelbase model powered by a 113.0-kWh battery—which was the sole version available at launch—and the eSprinter now offers an 81.0-kWh battery. The 81.0-kWh power unit can be had in the same high-roof, big-box van—or in a new, smaller body style with a standard roof height (11.4 inches lower), a 144-inch wheelbase, and an overall length that’s some 40 inches shorter. The smaller model with the smaller battery also dramatically lowers the price of entry.

Either battery powers the same rear-mounted electric motor with a standard 134-hp output or an optional 201-hp upgrade. Torque stands at 295 pound-feet. The eSprinter is too big for EPA range estimates, but on the European WLTP cycle, the existing 113.0-kWh model is good for 297 miles (roughly translating to 252 miles by EPA measure). The 81.0-kWh version in the same body shell clocks in at 190 WLTP miles (about 161 miles on the EPA cycle) and 204 WLTP miles (figure 173 miles in the U. S. of A.) for the smaller body style. Mercedes claims that most cargo vans are used for daily delivery travel fewer than 150 miles per day, so even the smaller energy source should suffice.

If you need to go farther, the regular Sprinter continues with its 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine. That powerplant is good for 168 horsepower and 295 pound-feet—or 208 horses and 332 pound-feet in High Output form. The combustion-engine Sprinter also offers optional all-wheel drive, whereas the electric version is rear-drive only.

The eSprinter still is exclusively a Cargo Van, but the regular Sprinter can be had as a Cargo Van, a Crew Van (seating up to five), a Passenger Van (seating up to 15), or a Cab Chassis configuration. All Sprinters gain new features for 2025. The blind-spot monitoring system adds the ability to warn drivers of a cyclist to their right when making a right turn. The 360-degree camera system now also scans the area immediately ahead of the van and warns of a pedestrian or cyclist in that zone when the van first starts moving. A heated steering wheel is also now available.

With the smaller battery and smaller body style, the entry price of the eSprinter falls by some $10,000 to $63,545. The larger-battery version starts at $75,855. Base prices for the combustion-engine 2025 Sprinter range from $53,195 for the Cargo Van to $59,295 for the Passenger Van.
