2025 Toyota Corolla FX Edition Gets Style But No Substance

Key Takeaways

  • 2025 Toyota Corolla FX pays homage to the past with cosmetic enhancements but lacks performance upgrades.
  • Exterior elements include 18-inch black wheels & a spoiler, while the interior gets Moonstone fabric seats with orange stitching.
  • The FX is based on the SE trim, adding LED daytime running lights, climate control, and auto start, but maintains the same engine.

Toyota has introduced a new special edition for the 2025 Toyota Corolla called the FX which pays homage to the Corolla FX16 hatchback that dates back to 1987. The model is based on the SE grade and offers cosmetic enhancements inside and out with the inclusion of new accents, wheels, and more. It also debuts the 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia screen on the trim as standard, but it will be available on other 2025 Corolla trims.

It joins other special additions of Corolla lineup from recent years, like the Infrared edition on the Corolla hybrid and the ever-popular Nightshade addition with wonderful bronze wheels. While the company is pitching the FX as a sportier option, it does not offer improved performance.

On the exterior, Toyota has upgraded styling with 18-inch satin-black wheels with a unique design and black lug nuts, giving it a blacked-out roof, black badging, and black mirror caps. The sportiest addition and the only one that could be considered a performance enhancement is the revised spoiler, which accentuates the model nicely. On the inside, you receive Moonstone fabric seats with orange stitching.

This is based on the SE trim which costs $24,490 for 2024 with additional features including LED daytime running lights, automatic climate control, and push-button start. This special edition also receives the 7-inch multi-information display and the wireless charger from the XSE trim to sweeten the deal. Available colors are Midnight Black Metallic, Ice Cap, and Underground. Ice Cap and Underground will both have a Midnight Black Metallic roof.

No Go

If all of those features and options sound pretty good to you, then that’s great, because Toyota didn’t add anything else to the model. The vehicle is still powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive layout isn’t as sporty as the rear-wheel drive in the original FX16, and 60 mph arrives in the leisurely mid-8 second range, not inspiring much performance confidence.

Toyota Corolla Sedan Generations: Everything You Need To Know In One Place

The Toyota Corolla remains one of the best-selling sedans worldwide. Here’s everything you need to know about its humble beginnings.

At least on the previously released Apex Edition, Toyota tuned the suspension for the track and lowered the car by half an inch by adding new shocks, coil springs, and a unique stabilizer bar. This time around you’ll just have to imagine there’s more performance. At least you’ll receive a healthy 34 combined MPG rating. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, nor is it clear if the special edition will be available on the Corolla Hatchback, but expect the trim to hit dealers this Fall and come in a bit higher than the 2025 SE trim.
