The Tata Sierra was the first compact SUV made in India. The two-door 5-seater SUV was available in the Indian market for some time. It was one of those SUVs that were considered way ahead of its time. Tata not only sold this SUV in India but also exported it to other countries. The Tata Sierra was even sold with a turbocharged diesel engine, and that is what we have here in this video review. The vlogger shows a 1999 model Tata Sierra SUV that has been well maintained by its owner. Spotting a car like the Tata Sierra is quite difficult in Delhi NCR regions due to emission norms.
The video has been shared by the AutoTrend YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger showcases a 1999 Tata Sierra SUV owned by one of his followers. Finding a stock Tata Sierra is very rare these days, as most owners tend to simply modify the SUV. The one seen in the video here looks close to the stock version. The owner has maintained the original shade of paint on this SUV. Starting with the front, the grille on this SUV has been replaced with a custom-made metal grille that has Sierra branding on it too. The headlamps and turn indicators are all halogen units, and the owner has also retained the original bumper.
Coming to the side profile, the SUV gets 15-inch steel rims with Sierra wheel caps. The rims are wrapped with thick-profile AT tires. There is a metal side step to make entry and exit easier to the cabin. As mentioned above, the Sierra was an SUV that was way ahead of its time. It was designed as a global product with a three-door design.
Not everyone appreciated it, and that was one of the reasons why it didn’t grab buyers’ attention. It was a proper SUV that was around 4.4 meters long. The SUV was available with both 2WD and 4×4 options. The large glass house of the Sierra is a major part of the SUV’s design, and that has been retained. The owner has retained the rear windshield which came with defoggers and dual rear wipers. The spare wheel was mounted on the tailgate, and the tail lamps on this SUV were also stock. However, a new set of lights can be seen on the lower bumper of this SUV.
The vlogger then shows how the interiors have aged. The owner actually customized the interior with custom seat covers, a new roof liner, and even door pads to make it look modern. The original steering wheel, door handles, instrument cluster, and AC unit were all retained. The SUV even came with a manual IRVM. The SUV is extremely spacious, and the co-passenger seat can be folded with the touch of a button. The SUV also gets two small rear AC vents, but we are not sure if that was a feature that Tata offered from the factory or not.
The SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 90 PS and 190 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a manual transmission. The owner has definitely maintained the car pretty well. Tata is now working on a new version of the Sierra, and the SUV is expected to be launched in the market in 2025. Design patent images of the Sierra got leaked online recently, and the SUV looks similar to the concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo last year. The SUV will be available with an IC engine as well as an electric vehicle.
