CRUDE is an Understatement – This 1955 Chevy Dirt Track Car Was Last Raced In 1971
Tommy Lee Byrd, The Hot Rod Hoarder, is back at it folks! This time he’s got a great video about an old dirt track racecar and I’m telling you it is worth watching. This car is a time capsule, that’s for sure. You gotta check it out.

It’s ROUGH but it RUNS!!! I love the chopped top on this ’55 Chevy dirt track car, and the fact that it RUNS is a huge bonus! This historic dirt track car was raced in Indiana and was last raced around 1971. It has some questionable modifications, but you just gotta see some of this stuff to believe it. Water pipe for a roll cage, 8 lug wheels, crazy shocks, SUPER crazy homemade quick ratio steering….so many cool details. And the engine that’s in it now sounds good and healthy. It’s backed by a Muncie 4 speed with only 3rd and 4th gear.
This thing really got my attention and was one of about 2,500 Tri-Five Chevys in attendance at the Tri-Five Nationals. 1955 Chevy dirt track cars were not out of the ordinary, but you just don’t see many survivors. Most of them were parted out or scrapped because when a dirt track car is used up…there isn’t much left of it. In this case, the car still has lots of great artifacts remaining.
