Anand Mahindra on driver who saved passengers from elephant: Best Bolero driver in the world

Anand Mahindra is quite active on Twitter, and can often be sharing witty one-liners and videos. When one of his followers drew Mr. Mahindra’s attention towards the recent incident where a wild elephant charged towards a Mahindra Bolero at the Kabini tiger reserve, here’s what the Managing Director of the Mahindra group had to say.

Another Twitter user has posted the picture of the Mahindra Bolero driver who showed great presence of mind and skill to save his passengers from the charging wild elephant. The driver’s name is Prakash, and he’s been driving safari vehicles at the Kabini Tiger Reserve in Karnataka for over 10 years.

Safari drivers are quite experienced, and know the terrain very well

Most drivers who drive tourists around in safari vehicles at wildlife reserves across India are quite experienced, and know the terrain like the back of their hands. This is probably one big reason why the driver of the Mahindra Bolero safari vehicle – Mr. Prakash – could drive the vehicle in reverse for an extended period of time even as the wild elephant was charging at the vehicle. It takes great composure and skill to drive a vehicle in reverse in a e wildlife reserve, where the path can often be quite narrow with a lot of vegetation and rocks along the sides.

Never venture into jungles and reserve forests without a guide

While there are boards warning tourists not to go into jungle and reserve forest paths, many continue to venture into such places without concern for their own safety. Encountering wild animals on such journeys can be very risky as people often don’t know how to react to such an encounter.

On the other hand, taking experienced guides along while venturing into a forest can be very helpful. This is what played out in the elephant charging incident that we’ve listed below. Had the safari vehicle’s driver not had the sheer experience and expertise of Mr. Prakash, the passengers may have been in big trouble.
