This home made Porsche 356 Speedster from is a Honda City in disguise [Video]

Porsche is currently one of the most popular sports car manufacturer in the world. The first production car from Porsche was a 356. It was available in variety of body styles like coupe, convertible and speedster. It is now an extremely rare car and a well-maintained example would cost you in millions. Internationally there are many workshops that make kit cars that look like Porsche 356 Speedster. Finding such a car in India is extremely difficult for multiple reasons. However, here we have a video of a car enthusiast from Goa, who decided to built a Porsche 356 Speedster from scratch at home.

The video has been uploaded by Talking Cars on their YouTube channel. In this video, the presenters talk about how owner of this Porsche 356 replica, who goes by the name the_rusty_cashew on Instagram actually built this car. unlike other modification or conversion projects that we have seen in the past, the owner of this car actually did a lot of research and took time to build this car from scratch. In most cases, we have seen that people or garages usually take a donor car and they modify it to look like the car they want.

This one however is different from them all. The owner started by working on the frame of the car. He built the frame of the car and also ensured that it works. The original 356 has a rear-engine layout however, the one seen here is a mid-engine sports car. The engine on this 356 replica is borrowed from a Honda City type 2 automatic sedan. The video shows how neatly the engine has been mounted on the frame and has a cage around it for reinforcement. The suspension setup on this car is a custom job and the owner got the wheels from a used car parts market.

Once the mechanical part of the car was sorted, he started focusing on the body of the car. He found a 3D image of the original 356 online and started designing the car accordingly. It took him almost 4 years to make the car look like what it is in the video. He created several 3D models using software. Using those 3D models, he created a buck for the body of the car. Buck is usually made by car manufacturers during the development stage of any car. The buck helps them in creating complex designs and shapes in a car. Once the buck was ready, he constructed the body of the 356 replica using fibreglass.

The whole body is finished in fibreglass and some panels like the seats, dashboard and a cover in the boot is all finished in wet carbon fibre. The owner of this car has put in a lot of work into the car and that is quite evident from this video. The work on this car has still not finished as bits like exterior paint, instrument cluster, and interiors are yet to be finalised. The car looks extremely beautiful and it is definitely India’s one and only handmade Porsche Speedster replica.
