“This cutting-edge design will reduce complexity and cost,” said Nakul Duggal, head of automotive for Qualcomm. “You are reducing the number of physical boxes. So it goes down to a single box. You reduce the amount of memory that you need. The extra external components that you need, those go down,” explained Duggal to Reuters.
The Ride Flex chip is pre-integrated with the Snapdragon Ride Vision stack, which provides automakers with driver assistance and self-driving abilities. Ride Vision meets not only European General Safety Regulations but cuts the mustard over at NCAP, an organization known for being strict about safety.
Car companies will appreciate the flexibility of the Ride Flex Chip, which can be scaled to operate on different levels depending on the vehicle. For high-end vehicles (like a 7 Series, for example), manufacturers will be able to integrate rear-seat entertainment systems, premium audio systems, driver monitoring systems, and digital instrument gauges with high-end graphics.
