Details about the new Tacoma have been kept under wraps, but an inside source claimed back in December there will be two engine options: a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a Hybrid Max. The former is also found in the current Highlander where it produces 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The hybridized version could pack around 366 hp and 406 lb-ft.
Obviously, specifics will be revealed next Tuesday but the good news is that Toyota is finally getting rid of the ancient 2.7-liter inline-four and naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and, chances are, the equally old six-speed automatic transmission.
