Since jumping into the EV segment with both feet several years back, Volkswagen’s been pushing hard to make the conversion across a wide array of vehicles. The latest in that line debuted Monday: the ID.7.
The new full-size sedan is the automaker’s new flagship model and is designed to take its passengers wherever they choose to do in style and comfort.
“With the ID.7 we are taking the next step in our electric offensive. The limousine offers a high level of comfort and long ranges,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, in a statement.
“Already by 2026, we will offer the widest electric range of all manufacturers in Europe — from the entry-level model for less than 25,000 euros up to the ID.7 as the new top model within the ID. family. Our goal is to achieve an electric car share of 80% in Europe by 2030. (Starting in) 2033, Volkswagen will produce only electric vehicles in Europe.”
Go comfortably far
Not only is the new ID.7 designed to be a comfortable ride, but also it’s now the company’s range champion, traveling 700 km, or more than 430 miles on a single charge for the ID.7 Pro S model. That’s using Europe WLTP measurement. Expect that to be closer to 380 to 400 miles for the Environmental Protection Agency’s measurements.
The brand is also offering a Pro trim level that comes in at about 380 miles on WLTP or about 340 miles for the EPA rating. That model featues a 77 kWh battery while the Pro S gets a beefier 86 kWh battery.
The German automaker’s flagship EV hits Europe first, then China later this year before arriving in the U.S. early next year. When it does arrive, it will be right at home making long trips across the fruited plain.
It’s 195.7 inches long with a wheelbase of 116 and a co-efficient of drag of just 0.23, which makes it pretty slippery, further enabling the better-than-average range of the ID.7. The new electric drivetrain provides a bit of oomph as well developing 282 horsepower. You’re not going to with the Traffic Light Grand Prix in it, but you’ll be able to do just about anything you need while on the road — comfortably.
