Green Giant: Dylan McCool and McTaggart Revive A Crusty Cordoba! – BangShift.com

First and foremost: neither Dylan McCool nor myself plan on keeping this car alive. In fact, as I was driving down to his house to meet this Deep Sherwood Green tank, I was having flashbacks to a car from my past: the “War Car”, which was either a Dodge Coronet or Dodge Charger Sport two-door that I saw beaten to within an inch of it’s life back in the mid-1990s. I had a lot of fond memories of absolutely beating the stuffing out of that old tank in grass fields and woodland trails, and even got some of my first shots of unhinged time behind the wheel in that beast. Dylan certainly knew how to get me to make the roadtrip to his place: “Let’s get it running, then we can do donuts with it.” Sold. I’ll be right down first thing in the morning.

What kills me about this car is that just like the ’76 Plymouth Fury that I recently sold to a friend, this is one of those cars that somebody loved for a long time before it found a different owner who just didn’t care at all. If this car was polished up and pretty, it’d be a stunner. Instead, there’s structural rust everywhere, including a hole in the firewall big enough to shove your fist through, and an interior that is a legitimate health hazard thanks to one of the opera window panes remaining wide-open for years. The moonshine jugs in the backseat might hint as to why that glass was sitting intact on the floorboard and not where Chrysler line workers left it.

Regardless, this Cordoba is doomed. I’ll be taking some parts for the Charger, Dylan is going to keep the powertrain, and once the carcass is picked, the scrap money will probably pay for McCool’s next project. At least we got to have some fun with it before we send it to that Sales Bank parking lot in the sky!
