Underworld, dons – These are the terms that most of us have only seen or heard in movies. However, the late Don Muthappa Rai was a real-life don who lived a lavish lifestyle. When he passed away at the age of 68, he left behind an inheritance worth hundreds of crores. Muthappa Rai led an interesting life and even landed a bank job at Vijaya Bank after completing his graduation.
He came into the limelight in the 1980s after a series of murders. He quickly rose through the ranks of the underworld when he committed a broad daylight murder of Member of Parliament Jairaj. Following the incident in 1990, Muthappa gained a reputation for his swift and seamless operations. He eventually moved his operations to Dubai and frequented both Mumbai and Dubai. However, he was deported from the UAE in 2002 due to his alleged involvement in underworld activities in the Emirates.
He was eventually acquitted of various murders and serious crimes due to a lack of evidence. In his last years, Muthappa claimed that he had quit the underworld for good and had been clean for over two decades. Bollywood director Ram Gopal Verma even made a movie about his life titled “Rai”. But would you like to know what he really drove in real life?

Toyota Land Cruiser
Muthappa’s favorite vehicle appeared to be his all-black Toyota Land Cruiser. Despite owning several other luxury cars, he was often seen driving the Land Cruiser. The car is customized with aftermarket accessories such as a bull bar and auxiliary lamps, and it also has aftermarket alloy wheels. Additionally, the car’s windows are jet black, giving it a distinctly “don-like” appearance.
Land Rover Range Rover
This is yet another luxury SUV parked in Muthappa’s esteemed garage. It’s a Land Rover Range Rover, an older model that comes in a white color. Despite its age, this car has been spotted quite a few times, as it has a certain appeal that never goes out of style. Range Rovers have always been extremely popular among celebrities who want to make a statement. With its imposing road presence and a spacious and comfortable cabin, this car is definitely a head-turner.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes is synonymous with luxury and a unique sense of class. This is especially true for the S-Class, which is known for being an incredibly comfortable sedan. The Mercedes Benz S-Class is a flagship sedan from a German manufacturer that embodies the brand’s reputation for excellence. Muthappa’s Mercedes Benz is all covered in black and has been slightly modified with five-spoke alloys, giving it a striking underworld look.
Mercedes-Benz SLK
Muthappa’s SLK Coupe is a classic 2005 model that’s a rare find in India. It features Mercedes’ iconic scissor doors and, like Muthappa’s other cars, is covered in a sleek black paint job. The SLK Coupe was a sensation when it was first introduced, being viewed as a mid-size sports car that quickly gained popularity in the international market. Muthappa has been spotted driving this car in and around Bengaluru, adding to the allure of this already eye-catching vehicle.
Polaris Sportsman
Polaris is a market-leading brand in the ATV segment and entered the Indian market almost 10 years back. Due to low sales, the manufacturer left India. They have an extremely wide range of ATVs to choose from, however, Muthappa Rai’s ATV is a Polaris Sportsman. Sadly, Polaris ATVs cannot be legally driven on public roads in India, therefore this was mostly used inside the house.
Audi Q5
The Audi Q5 is an immensely popular car among celebrities in India. From businessmen to entrepreneurs, everyone seems to identify with this car. As a mid-size SUV, the Q5 offers a spacious and comfortable cabin that’s built to last. With its sturdy construction and ample room, it’s no wonder why this car has become a go-to choice for those seeking both style and practicality.
Toyota Fortuner
No Indian mafia’s garage would be complete without an all-black Toyota Fortuner, and Muthappa Rai’s collection is no exception. With its masculine design and commanding road presence, the Fortuner has become a popular choice among those with power, wealth, and authority. In the SUV segment, no other car has been able to match its appeal. Muthappa’s Fortuner, in particular, was primarily used as a security vehicle, underscoring its reputation as a symbol of strength and security.
