As one would guess, the sound coming out of this thing when Leno and his co-pilot started it up was otherworldly. However, like most jet cars, it wasn’t built for acceleration, and they even needed someone to push the car to get off a standing start. Once they got to speed on a race track though, Leno commented that it ran smooth.
The loud turbine noises likewise continued onwards as they went for a run around a race track. As Leno said in the video, it has a linear acceleration and one has to keep on the throttle constantly to avoid the low-end RPMs just to maintain its speed. He even gave it the beans once or twice, and we got to see the car stretch its muscles.
With all that said, jet cars are becoming rare nowadays. In fact, the Howmet TX itself only has four examples, making it eligible to become one of the rarest cars in the world.
