Why Bentley Mulliner Created The New de Havilland Collection

Bentley is a century-old brand, with an incredible pedigree of creating some of the world’s most celebrated luxury performance cars. In its home country of the United Kingdom, the new Bentley Hatfield showroom, operated by H.R. Owen, celebrated its grand opening. The new showroom sits on the site of the former de Havilland factory that made British aircraft, bringing together two historic names that have been together before.

Many de Havilland aircraft were powered by Merlin engines that were manufactured at Bentley’s Crewe facility, and with the new 9,160 square-foot facility being at its former factory, Bentley decided to honor the grand opening with an exclusive de Havilland Collection of cars, created in collaboration with Bentley’s Mulliner bespoke division. The collection consists of a Continental GT S and GTC S, a Flying Spur S, and a Bentayga S, all of which are inspired by historic de Havilland aircraft like the Comet Racer.

Tornado Red accents echo the Comet Racer’s red paint, which it wore when it won the 1934 England-Austrailia air race, and the same theme continues in the interior with a split configuration featuring Hotspur and Beluga leather, as well as Mulliner White piping, a chrome pinstripe, and de Havilland commemorative details. As a celebration of both a brand new Bentley showroom and the reunion of the histories of two iconic British names in engineering and transportation, Bentley Hatfield and the de Havilland Collection of Bentleys are an incredible moment.
