Alpine’s decision to develop its own platform will, of course, be more expensive. But that’s why the brand plans on sharing the platform across multiple models, added de Meo. The CEO even hinted at the possibility of a halo hypercar. Alpine fans may recall the brand revealed the Alpenglow concept last year. This hydrogen-powered beauty may be our first glimpse of a potential Alpine hypercar.
But before that, Alpine wants to take the fight to established luxury brands with conventional electric SUVs and coupes. Engineering an SUV is out of Alpine’s wheelhouse, so it may need to knock on Lotus’ door once more. After all, the Hethel-based automaker has shown the world it can build a sporting SUV with the Eletre.
“There was no friction with the thing because everybody was feeling like this was the best thing,” said de Meo. “It doesn’t mean we don’t have opportunities to work together again.”
