Monsoon has officially arrived in most parts of the country, and heavy rainfall has flooded roads and low-lying regions in many areas. Driving during the monsoon becomes a challenge as new potholes form on the road due to rain. If you are not careful, there is a chance of driving into these potholes and damaging your vehicle. For all these reasons, it is always recommended to drive or ride carefully during rain to ensure that you and your vehicle reach the destination safely. Here, we have a video that shows why one must not drive a car fast on a wet road.
The video has been shared by Asianet News on their YouTube channel. The incident happened recently on the Mananthavady-Valliyoorkavu road in Kerala. The video was recorded by a CCTV camera installed nearby. It clearly shows an empty stretch of road that is extremely wet due to constant rain. In the video, we can see a biker and a Tata Tiago passing through the road. Just behind the Tata Tiago is a Hyundai Grand i10. It appears that the car was being driven very fast on this empty road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, and it started to slide away from the road.

We are not sure if the driver attempted to regain control or not. The camera shows the Hyundai Grand i10 sliding through the left side of the lane and moving to the other side. The car did a 180-degree turn before crashing into the safety wall on the side of the road. The video does not provide details regarding the driver and occupants in the car. We hope that the driver and other occupants are safe without any major injuries. As for the car, it definitely has damage to the bumper, fender, and even the left side doors. It seems that people were not aware of the accident as they were all inside their homes due to the rain. The Tata Tiago driver also drove away, possibly not noticing the car behind their vehicle.
What happened here?
This video is a perfect example of why one should not drive at high speeds on wet roads. On such surfaces, cars can easily lose control, leading to accidents like this one. This phenomenon is called aquaplaning. It occurs when a thin layer of water forms between the tire and the road, causing the tire, which is the only point of contact with the road, to stop responding to steering inputs and resulting in the car losing control.
Aquaplaning can happen on wet roads when driving at high speeds because the treads on the tires do not have enough time to push the water out and maintain grip. If you ever encounter such a situation, the first thing to do is take your foot off the accelerator. As the vehicle slows down, the tires will once again come in contact with the road, allowing you to regain control. Make sure to check the condition of your tires before the rainy season and, above all, never exceed the speed limit on wet roads. Keep your car’s speed low during the rainy season to avoid such situations.
