Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny are currently two of the most accessible 4×4 SUVs one can buy in India. Both the Mahindra Thar and the Maruti Jimny have their positives and negatives, which we have discussed on our website in the past. Both SUVs have their own set of fans, but one thing they can both agree on is their off-road capabilities. Both the Jimny and the Mahindra Thar are capable off-roaders, and they have proven this in the past. Here, we have a video in which a couple of Mahindra Thar SUVs and a Maruti Jimny showcase their capabilities in a muddy farmland.
The video has been uploaded by Mannat Bajwa on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger and his friends visit a farmland (which probably belongs to someone in the group) and start driving on it. There are a couple of Mahindra Thar SUVs, a brand new Maruti Jimny with some modifications, and a vintage jeep that has been well maintained. However, the vintage jeep does not enter the mud-filled farm. It appears that the land was being prepared for the next crop, ploughed using a tractor, and later filled with water.

This created an ideal situation for these SUVs to demonstrate their capabilities. Before entering the sticky mud, all these SUVs have some fun on a dry patch of farm that has been ploughed. The Mahindra Thar is the first to venture into the muddy farm. It should be noted that both Mahindra Thar SUVs have larger aftermarket alloy wheels and off-road spec tires. The Jimny has also been modified with aftermarket alloys and all-terrain (AT) tires. The driver of the Mahindra Thar engages the 4×4 mode and effortlessly drives through the mud, roving around the muddy farm and kicking up splashes of mud.
Within minutes, the piece of land starts to resemble a slush pit. This is when the second Mahindra Thar enters. Just like the first one, the second SUV performs well. After some time, the Maruti Jimny also joins the Thar. All three SUVs perform admirably in the slush. The Maruti Jimny initially struggles to move through the mud, but once it gains speed, the SUV manages to glide through the slush. However, there are moments when both the Mahindra Thar and the Jimny lose traction, and their wheels spin freely.
The drivers simply stop, reverse their SUVs, and drive in a different direction. Apart from the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny, an Isuzu V-Cross 4×4 also enters the slush and takes a round of the farm. All three SUVs have their share of fun in the muddy farm. The Mahindra Thar is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, and with manual and automatic transmission options. On the other hand, the Maruti Jimny is available with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, which comes with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission option. Both SUVs perform well in this video, highlighting the importance of tires in off-roading. If the Jimny were equipped with stock highway terrain (HT) tires, it is uncertain whether it would have performed as well.
