Take A Look At This Awesome 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire Dealership Promotional Film.
Automakers don’t do this kind of thing anymore. And when this video was posted, it was apparently the first time since the 1960’s. If you aren’t familiar with the 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire, it was one of the first two turbocharged cars to be offered by the OE’s. The other was the Corvair Monza Spyder, both of which came out in 1962. But what makes the Olds special, and better to us hot rodders, is that it was V8 powered. But there was a lot more to it than that.
This turbocharged combo was interesting and special because it was bolted to the 215 cubic inch V8 and had a special fluid injection system that today we know as water meth injection. It featured this system to combat detonation, which would have been bad since the Olds engine was relatively high compression. It made 215 horsepower, and 300 lb ft of torque, which was something in 1962 and we totally approve of this little V8 and it’s power adder.
