Fortuner, Scorpio N & Thar in waterlogged road

Many parts of North India have been experiencing heavy rainfall for the last couple of days. In many areas, roads have washed away, caved in, or are simply flooded with rainwater. This has created issues for many road users. Long traffic jams and stranded vehicles on waterlogged roads are now a common sight. We have written several times on our website about the risks of driving through waterlogged areas, but people tend to do it anyway. Here we have a video that shows how the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio N, and the Mahindra Thar performed on a waterlogged road.

The video has been uploaded by Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel. The video was shared with him by one of his subscribers. The road seen in the video is actually somewhere in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi NCR region, which includes Noida, has been receiving heavy rainfall lately. This means that many roads and underpasses have filled with water. It looks like only the lowest section of this road has turned into a lake after water collected here. Before any of the mentioned SUVs attempt to cross, we see several other cars crossing the waterlogged section.

We see a Maruti Dzire sedan wading through the water. After a point, the rear of the sedan started floating, and the driver was unable to drive it. Locals who were on the roadside pushed the sedan out of the water. Similarly, a Toyota Innova and a Maruti Swift hatchback were also pushed to the other side. After these vehicles crossed, we see a Toyota Fortuner approach the road. However, after looking at the water, the driver stopped and simply took another road.

After the Toyota Fortuner, it was a Mahindra Scorpio N that entered the water. The driver managed to drive the car without any issues until the midpoint. After this, the rear of the SUV started floating in water. This meant that the driver had no control over the vehicle. The video does not show how the SUV was rescued. We are guessing that the people who gathered around pushed the SUV out.

Lastly, the Mahindra Thar 4×4 made its way through the water with ease. It looked like a modified Thar, which might have helped the driver attempt this task without any worry. The water wading capacity of the Mahindra Thar is 650 mm. The driver was aware of its capacity. The Fortuner, which didn’t even attempt to cross, has a water wading capacity of 700 mm. The Mahindra Scorpio N only has 500 mm of water wading capacity.

Driving through a waterlogged road can be an issue. If possible, try to avoid the route like the Toyota Fortuner did. Although he had a perfect vehicle to cross the road, he chose not to. One major issue that people face when driving through water is hydrolocking. Water might get into the engine through the air intake and lock the engine. You won’t be able to start the vehicle until you clear the water from it. This is an expensive and time-consuming procedure. Additionally, the chances of the car getting stuck in a pothole or drain cannot be ruled out.
