Porsche 911 Will Have A Combustion Engine For As Long As Possible

Porsche’s plan is to have EVs account for 80% of its sales volume by 2030. Its move to pure electric power started with the Taycan, with the Macan EV following in its footsteps. The electric compact SUV has been spotted multiple times while testing in public – most recently in the US. Following delays due to software issues, the Macan EV will be revealed in full by the end of the year, reaching showrooms next year.

After the Macan, the 718 Boxster/Cayman sports cars and the best-selling Cayenne SUV will follow, getting electric versions sooner rather than later. The 911 will account for the 20% that will remain combustion-powered using synthetic fuel, thanks to an essential loophole in the European Union’s fierce anti-ICE legislation.

Beyond e-fuels, Porsche appears to be looking at other ways to make combustion engines even more efficient, as evidenced by the new turbo tech patent filings discovered by CarBuzz recently.
