Tesla owners can now control their cars using Siri

Tesla has rolled out an app update for iPhone users allowing them to control their cars with Siri shortcuts.

The latest version of the Tesla app for iOS allows access to “vehicle controls and climate from the Apple Shortcuts app”.

That means you’re able to program in shortcuts that will lock or unlock the car, or turn on the air-conditioning when you ask Siri. It’s a minor update, but one that makes it simpler again for Apple users to remotely control their electric car.

Owners can already use their phone as a car key, and can control the majority of vehicle functions from within the Tesla app.

Depending on the options fitted, some owners can even “Summon” their cars from their phones and have them drive to meet them in a carpark.

Although Tesla has invested heavily in its app for iPhone users who want to control their cars remotely, it’s one of very few brands not to allow owners to control their phones using CarPlay on the central touchscreen.
