Porsche is adding a new variant to the model line following the launch of the third generation Cayenne earlier this year: the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid SUV and Coupe. The most potent Cayenne for 2024 is propelled by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, just as the previous model generation, along with a number of other updates that keep it in the forefront of luxury performance SUVs.
Powerhouse performance
Porsche has greatly increased the electric range and power on the new Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, which enhances both usability and performance in daily driving. The heavily modified 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine, which produces 591 horsepower, is supported by an electric motor with 174 hp. The system’s combined output is 729 hp and 700 pound-feet of torque.
That’s enough to generate performance that maintains Porsche’s efforts to maintain the Cayenne’s reputation as being the sports car of SUVs. The Turbo E-Hybrid has a 0-to-60 mph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds and a top track speed of 183 mph.
What else can we say, except yum?
Other upgrades
The new Cayenne E-Hybrid is fitted with a far larger 25.9 kWh high-voltage battery, which is located underneath the cargo area. Despite the larger battery capacity, the new 11-kW on-board charger can cut the charging time to under 2.5 hours.
But Porsche hasn’t added power without massaging other parts of this luxury performance SUV handling.
A new two-chamber, two-valve adaptive air suspension system is standard, allowing the driver to separately modify the settings for compression and rebound, which the automaker says provides an increase in comfort and handling as well as a wider range between the system’s Comfort and Sport Plus settings. It also reduces dive and squat motion when accelerating or braking, as well as when tackling you favorite twisty road.
Also standard is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), while rear-axle steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) are optional.
A change of face
Porsche also treated the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid to a wardrobe update.
The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid SUV and Coupe wear a front fascia designed specifically for the Turbo with bigger air intakes and air blades finished in high-gloss black along with newly designed HD-Matrix LED headlights. The lower rear fascia and wheel arches are painted in body color to emphasize the vehicle’s performance focus. Two brushed metal twin exhaust tailpipes and red brake calipers makes a subtle, if menacing, statement in the rear.
Climb inside and you’ll find the 2024 Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is trimmed Race-Tex roof lining, aluminum dash and door trim. Along with 18-way adjustable leather Sport seats, the heated GT Sport steering wheel comes standard with a drive mode selector, a more powerful 15-watt air-conditioned induction-charging pad, a digital instrument cluster with a curved and free-standing design.
The 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is scheduled to reach dealers in the second quarter of 2024, with prices starting at $146,900 for the SUV, and $151,400 for the Coupe, plus options, taxes and a $1,650 destination charge.
