Safety ratings of a car are something that many buyers take into consideration these days. Here, we have a list of cars made in India that have scored 4 and 5-star ratings in Global NCAP crash tests.
Tata Tiago & Tigor
The entry-level hatchback and the only sedan in Tata’s lineup are known for their build quality, like other cars from the manufacturer. Both the Tata Tiago and Tigor have scored 12.52 out of 17 in adult occupant safety and achieved a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The electric version of the Tigor was also tested and scored 12 points.
Mahindra Thar

The current-generation Mahindra Thar was launched in 2020. The SUV is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 4×4 SUV scored 12.52 points out of 17 in adult occupant safety and achieved a 4-star rating.
Renault Kiger & Nissan Magnite
The Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite have both found success in the Indian market. In the Global NCAP test, both SUVs scored 4-star ratings. The Renault Kiger scored 12.34 out of 17 points, while the Nissan Magnite achieved 11.85 points out of 17.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
It is one of the popular SUVs in the sub-4-meter segment. The SUV scored 12.51 points out of 17 in adult occupant safety and achieved a 4-star rating.
Tata Nexon
This was the first-ever made-in-India car to achieve a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP. It scored 16.06 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection. A facelift version of Nexon is now available in the market, and it is also expected to score similarly.
Tata Altroz
The only premium hatchback in the market currently with both petrol and diesel engine options. This car also scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. It scored 16.13 points out of 17 in the adult protection category.
Tata Punch
This entry-level SUV has proven its build quality in several instances. In the Global NCAP test, Punch received a 5-star rating, and it scored 16.45 points out of 17 in adult occupant safety.
Tata Harrier & Safari
Tata Harrier and Safari recently received a facelift. The facelifts underwent the crash test and passed with 5-star ratings. Both the SUVs scored 33.05 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection.
Mahindra XUV300
The Mahindra XUV300 also achieved a 5-star rating in the crash test. The Mahindra XUV300 scored 16.41 points out of 17.
Mahindra XUV700
XUV700 is the flagship SUV from Mahindra. It also received a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. The XUV700 scored 16.03 points out of 17 in adult safety rating.
Mahindra Scorpio-N
After GNCAP revised their protocols this year, they tested the Scorpio N. It was the first vehicle to be tested under the new set of protocols. The SUV scored 29.25 points out of 34 in adult occupant safety and achieved a 5-star safety rating.
Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia
Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are based on the same platform. Both these sedans scored 29.71 points out of 34, resulting in 5-star ratings as per the new GNCAP protocols.
Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq
Both these SUVs are also based on the same platform as Virtus & Slavia. The SUVs scored 29.64 points out of 34 and achieved a 5-star rating under the revised protocols by Global NCAP.
Hyundai Verna
This is the only Hyundai in the list at the moment. The all-new Verna scored 28.18 points out of 34 in adult occupant protection and achieved a 5-star rating.
