Toyota Land Cruiser GDJ76 Unveiled As New United Nations Company Car

More often than not, these vehicles are deported directly to conflict zones, so the focus is entirely on reliability. That’s why the main features are a part-time 4WD system, contrasting black snorkel, manually locking hubs, and seating for 10. You can only have it in a white that’s so basic that it doesn’t even have a name. Oddly, you can’t buy a bullet-resistant model. The best TGS can do is a ballistic blanket.

The biggest change is found underneath the hood. Instead of the 1HZ inline-six, the GDJ76 is powered by Toyota’s GD-6 turbocharged four-pot diesel. It’s the same engine used in the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, albeit detuned to 201 horsepower. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

According to TGS, it uses 30% less fuel than the inline-six, saving the UN and other organizations like it millions. It also meets all the emissions legislations of the countries it will inevitably operate in, which is nice, but hardly what you think about when one of these things is rolling into your town.
