The most damning part is that it was Day’s 1950s Chevy Truck nicknamed “Ole Heavy” that performed the risky stunt. YouTuber Turbo John posted a video detailing the insane drag run. From this, we learned the guy who rode Old Heavy is called “Randy.”
In the video, Randy lay face down while gripping the upper part of the truck’s wood bed cover. So no, he wasn’t “in the bed,” but quite clearly on it. He was only wearing a helmet and clothes, and there were no straps tying him down. He did sign a waiver, which doesn’t make it any less stupid. It’s like trying to hang on to the roof of a 1,000-horsepower supercar like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale while it’s going down the highway at 211 mph.
Luckily, Darwin decided not to punish Randy. He managed to hold on until the end of the run, but don’t go getting any ideas. Drag racing is a dangerous sport. You’re doing fine one second, and a millisecond later, you’re barreling towards a barrier.
Imagine how far Randy would have been yeeted if something terrible happened.
