On lap three, the 350Z manages a 1:25.6, which is good but still not record-breaking. That feat wouldn’t come until the fifth lap, where everything came together perfectly. On the lucky lap, Anis brakes early for the Andretti hairpin, noting that he was aware of the fade from the front pads.
Despite this, KERS Kels shoots out of the corner at speed. Things almost go sideways at Turn 3; the driver turned too early, briefly sending the car into the sand. Thankfully, this didn’t affect progress much, and the 350Z could carry on unaffected.
Barrelling up the Rahal Straight, the Nissan unleashes its full electrified power, using everything it has to scramble towards the infamous Corkscrew. “At this point, the tires feel perfect, and the car is just glued to the ground,” says Anis.
Flying through the Corkscrew, the 350Z makes light work of Turn 9 and Turn 10 before catapulting to the final straight.
