Clonmel in Tipperary is powering ahead with new Electric Vehicle (EV) fast charging points.
Tipperary County Councillor Siobhán Ambrose has welcomed the activation of the two privately owned Easy Go EV Chargers in the Davis Road car park in Clonmel, opposite the Showgrounds Shopping Centre, this week.
“I’m delighted to be informed that finally these two fast charge 75 watt charging points which were installed last August have finally been activated this week,” said Cllr Ambrose.
“I have received several representations from members of the public who own hybrid or electric cars who been enquiring as to when these chargers will be activated.
“The number of people using Hybrid or electric cars continues to increase and we need to make sure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to facilitate this demand. As this high usage increases I hope that these EV charging stations will in time be also erected in our villages in addition to our towns.
“In addition, I have also asked Tipperary County Council to investigate the possibility of upgrading some of the slow chargers around the town like those in the Suir Island car park to fast chargers.
“Many thanks to the Council staff who have been engaging with ‘Easy Go’ the owners of this particular charging station regarding the rollout of this project and I have no doubt that notwithstanding the huge delays that the activation of these two fast charging points in the Davis Road car park this week will be much welcomed by all hybrid and electric car users,” added Cllr Ambrose.
