We’ve already seen the significant technical similarities between the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and the Maserati MC20, and while Alfa Romeo is a historic brand, of the two, it’s Maserati that should have more exotic connotations – yet that’s not the case with these two cars.
Clearly, something must be done to prevent overlap between the two brands, especially when the former is talking about a future Giulia EV capable of nearly 1,000 horsepower, which aligns with the 986-hp promise of the Quattroporte EV. Need more evidence? The MC20 was supposed to be an Alfa. If two cars are going to be so closely related, compromises on quality and price will be made on both sides, and that’s not good for anyone.
Perhaps that’s why Stellantis is calling a halt. Once the two teams can find enough divergence on their development paths, maybe then these new cars will arrive. Luckily, the Giulia is only expected to arrive in 2025 or 2026, but in the meantime, we’re watching Maserati closely.
