Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has launched its first advanced Pure EV architecture, acti.ev, and the Punch.ev, the first product based on this architecture. The Punch.ev can now be booked at Tata Motors showrooms and Tata.ev stores for a payment of ₹21,000.

Anand Kulkarni, the Chief Products Officer and head of HV Programs and Customer Service at TPEM, in a company statement, said, “As leaders of the EV evolution in India, we are proud to enter 2024 with a groundbreaking development in the form of acti.ev – a made-in-India advanced Pure EV architecture that promises to be a trendsetter in the country’s rapidly developing EV market.”

According to the company, the acti.ev architecture is based on four key pillars: Performance, Technology, Modularity, and Space Efficiency. It consists of four layers: Powertrain, Chassis, Electrical Architecture, and Cloud Architecture.

Kulkarni added, “With this, we are doubly excited to announce the unveil of the first product made on this advanced, multi-layered architecture – the Punch.ev. The Punch.ev is our introduction to the next generation of EVs from TPEM.”

In addition to the Punch.ev, TPEM revealed that the acti.ev architecture will be used for more than five products in the next 18 months. This suggests that a whole range of new Tata EVs and SUVs, including the upcoming Curvv EV, the new Sierra EV and the Harrier EV, are likely to use the same architecture.

However, this should not be confused with Tata’s earlier announcement of the Premium Pure EV architecture, shared with JLR, known as the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, that will be used to underpin more premium cars like the Tata Avinya.

The Powertrain layer features an optimised battery pack design that offers a 10% improvement in energy density and multiple range options from 300 km to 600 km. The Chassis layer can accommodate multiple body styles and has a reinforced body structure for future safety protocols.

The Electrical Architecture layer is ready for ADAS L2+ capabilities and supports 5G for advanced network speeds. It also supports Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technology.

The Cloud Architecture layer promises an enhanced user experience with Arcade.ev, an in-car app suite, and supports advanced over-the-air updates for software and other features.
