Netflix Releases First 'NASCAR: Full Speed' Series Teaser

  • Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Drive to Survive–esque docuseries on the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
  • The series, called NASCAR: Full Speed, is executive produced by Dale Earnhardt Jr and will attempt to harness the same excitement as Drive to Survive before it.
  • Full Speed will premiere on Netflix on January 30 and covers nine drivers over the course of five episodes.

Drive to Survive proved to be a boon for both Netflix and Formula 1. The first season covering the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship premiered in March of the following year to resounding success. The show’s second season launched to massive success at the end of February 2020—just in time for COVID lockdowns to have us all begging for more content.

Despite some criticism regarding misplaced commentary or race footage, overdramatization, or general misrepresentation, Drive to Survive has had enough success to be renewed for a sixth season. Now Netflix is launching a new, NASCAR-focused series in an attempt to capture lightning in a bottle once more.

Netflix Tudum

Called NASCAR: Full Speed, the new series will premiere on January 30, the Tuesday before the series resumes inside the Los Angeles Coliseum. Netflix just released a one-minute teaser trailer, and although it doesn’t offer any concrete details, it does get us excited.

First announced in August, the series will span five 45-minute episodes covering the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. According to Netflix, the show follows nine drivers’ attempts to claim the Driver’s Championship. The full cast of drivers includes Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano, and Tyler Reddick.

We’re not sure the NASCAR show will have the same earth-stopping success the F1 series found, but the production value of the trailer certainly fuels excitement. Add household name and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s signature to the list of executive producers and you’ve got yourself a chance.

Headshot of Jack Fitzgerald

Jack Fitzgerald’s love for cars stems from his as yet unshakable addiction to Formula 1.
After a brief stint as a detailer for a local dealership group in college, he knew he needed a more permanent way to drive all the new cars he couldn’t afford and decided to pursue a career in auto writing. By hounding his college professors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was able to travel Wisconsin seeking out stories in the auto world before landing his dream job at Car and Driver. His new goal is to delay the inevitable demise of his 2010 Volkswagen Golf.
