“This funding will help ensure that EV chargers are accessible, reliable, and convenient for American drivers while creating jobs in charger manufacturing, installation, and maintenance for American workers,” he added.
The Federal Highway Administration will set aside $311 million of the allocated funds “to 36 ‘community’ projects, including two Indian Tribes in Alaska and Arizona.” This will see the establishment of EV chargers and hydrogen fueling stations in both urban and rural communities. The other $312 million will fund 11 “corridor” recipients; their projects are found along roadways known as “Alternative Fuel Corridors,” filling gaps in the network.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments will receive $70 million to build five hydrogen stations for medium and heavy-duty trucks in several areas. This will create a so-called hydrogen corridor from Texas to southern California. Elsewhere, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will get $10 million to build EV chargers for those residing in “multi-family housing in disadvantaged communities and rural areas.”
