Modern cars come with modern features. However, one of the features that many modern car brands offer in their models is the LED headlamps. While they definitely enhance the overall look of the car and give it a premium touch, this becomes an issue at night. We already know that people driving on our roads love to use high beams all the time. The high beam, paired with the powerful set of LED lights, means a problem for drivers coming from the opposite direction. Here are some reasons why we feel the LED lights on cars are irritating, especially when you are driving at night.

Tall vehicles shine their headlights into low vehicles

The craze for SUVs in India has gone up tremendously. Almost every manufacturer present in our market is focusing on making SUVs rather than sedans or hatchbacks. Popular SUVs like Kia Sonet, Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV700 are some of the SUVs that offer LED headlamps. The bright LED headlamps of these vehicles easily shine into the mirror of less tall cars and blind the vision of the driver.

Blue-white light is harsher on the eyes

When compared to the regular halogen lights on our cars, the LED headlights generate blue-white light. These lights may not be as powerful as the halogen lights; however, they are still harsher on human eyes compared to the yellow halogen lamps.

We have manufacturers that offer LED lights even on two-wheelers now. When you see a vehicle with LED lights approach, you automatically squint your eyes, and now you know the reason why.

Misaligned headlights

This is another problem with the cars on our roads. Many car owners do not adjust the beam of the lights. Some are aimed too high while some are aimed too low. This creates an issue as it either affects the visibility of the driver or at times affects the vision of drivers coming from the opposite direction.

Single Lane Roads

While the road infrastructure in India is developing, we still have several sections on our roads that are not too wide. The single-lane roads do not often have any median which once again creates a problem.

These roads are not very well-lit, and people driving through this often use high beam for better visibility. The powerful LED lights completely blind the driver coming from the opposite direction.

Bad Driving Etiquette

In India, a majority of drivers do not switch to low beam when they see a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. We are not just talking about car drivers here. Even truck drivers do not follow this etiquette. Sometimes the lights are so bright that the car driver coming from the opposite direction is completely blinded, and this has even caused accidents in the past.

Another habit that we have seen among many drivers recently when they are stuck in a traffic jam is that they flash the headlights. This creates a disturbance to the driver in front, and if the car in front is a hatchback, the harsh LED lights reflecting from the ORVMs and IRVMs completely blind the driver.
