Kia has issued a recall for certain units of its discontinued sedans, the Stinger and K900, due to a potential fire hazard associated with one of the turbocharger assemblies. The recall affects 36,248 vehicles, with an estimated 1% having the defect.
The affected 2018-2022 Kia Stinger units, manufactured from September 21, 2017, through September 15, 2021, are equipped with turbocharged 3.3-liter Smartstream gasoline direct injection V6 engines. Only one 2023 Stinger, manufactured on June 29, 2022, is affected. Meanwhile, the recall includes 2019-2020 Kia K900 units manufactured between August 8, 2018, and August 24, 2020, also equipped with the V6.
Of note, the Stinger was discontinued last year, while the K900 bid adieu in 2021, leaving the K5, Forte, and Rio in Kia’s sedan lineup in the US.
