According to the report, Mercedes-Benz has had to make adjustments to the Rastatt assembly plant for the facility to manufacture cars based on the MFA and MMA platforms. MFA underpins the current-generation A-Class, GLA, GLB, CLA, and EQB compact cars, among other models.

Billed as a successor to the MFA platform, MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) will be able to accommodate electric, plug-in hybrid, and combustion drivetrains, making it very versatile. While it will underpin future versions of the GLA and GLB, the first Mercedes to use it will be the third-generation CLA four-door coupe. The battery-powered version, previewed by the Concept CLA Class, will reportedly have a range of 466 miles.

Gas-powered models will continue to use the turbocharged 1.3-liter M282 engine that will also be used by Volvo, Geely, and Lynk&Co vehicles. The new MMA platform is expected to debut in 2024, so we can expect a reveal sometime soon.
