2025 Toyota 4Runner Teased Again Ahead Of April 9 Debut

Key Takeaways

  • Toyota 4Runner teased again with sliding rear window
  • SUV will be revealed on April 9
  • Styling will follow Tacoma’s lead

The Toyota 4Runner is one of America’s favorite SUVs, and hype surrounding the 2025 model is building with a new teaser image. This follows the first official 4Runner image that dropped a week ago. In that teaser, we got a zoomed-in view of the rear end, with a blocky badge script running across the bottom center of the tailgate, moving from its usual spot below the Toyota badge.

The new teaser gives us a closer look at the rear end, confirming that the rear window will be a sliding, powered unit and that the vehicle will be revealed on April 9. We also see a large touchscreen, as is fashionable.

What To Expect

Like the Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser (all excellent products), the 4Runner will appear atop Toyota’s modular TNGA-F platform. Powertrain options are yet to be confirmed, but given the demand hybrids are currently enjoying, an electrified option – potentially the iForce Max hybrid – seems a shoo-in.

Immense Toyota Prius Sales Jump Shows People Want Sexy Hybrids

The Toyota Prius sales charts have spiked over 138%, and that’s no coincidence.

That would mean around 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, but it also means that the 4.0-liter V6 is obsolete. Still, at least there’s a chance the Tacoma’s six-speed manual may be offered in the 4Runner. Unfortunately, all of this remains conjecture for the time being, but Toyota rarely disappoints.

Design Upgrades

In terms of styling, there is still a lot to be revealed, but it’s safe to assume that the blocky design language of the 4Runner’s abovementioned stablemates will carry over. That means blockier, more squared design elements throughout, including the headlights and taillights, the wheel arches, and the bulky bumpers. Despite concerns about blocky front ends and their dangers, this bold approach to styling seems to be paying off, and although we’ve only been given a taste, we think it’s safe to assume the 4Runner won’t be ugly.

All will be revealed next week.
