Key Takeaways
- Get free Stealth PPF for R1T and R1S this month
- The self-healing, satin film fully wraps the edges for seamless integration
- Catch: Custom orders halted until summer, limited inventory with Stealth PPF
Rivian has announced that it’s offering an expensive option for its R1T and R1S models for free this month. The EV maker’s Stealth paint protection film (PPF) is free of charge in select configurations ordered by April 30, 2024. The Stealth PPF was normally available as a $5,000 option.
The Stealth PPF, sourced from XPEL, promises to repel the elements while providing a smooth satin look. This durable film, designed to match the new vehicle’s limited warranty, offers protection against chips, scratches, and road debris, focusing on preserving the aesthetic integrity of Rivian EVs. It is available in select colors: Forest Green, Limestone, Midnight, and LA Silver.
Rivian’s Stealth PPF Vs. Tesla
One of the key features of the Stealth PPF is its ability to self-heal fine scratches and swirl marks when exposed to heat, ensuring that the vehicle retains its pristine appearance over time. The UV-resistant coating, with 360-degree coverage and sheen, prevents discoloration and dullness. To ensure the best coverage, Rivian fully wraps edges without requiring panel removal or disassembly, ensuring seamless integration.
The Stealth PPF is similar to Tesla’s paint protection wraps, which recently got additional color options and price cuts. However, Tesla’s wrap is still at least $1,000 more expensive when Rivian’s free Stealth PPF offer expires.

What’s The Catch?
The free Stealth PPF for Rivian R1T and R1S is certainly good news, but there’s a huge catch. The automaker has stopped taking custom orders this month until the end of summer, so interested buyers will be relegated to preconfigured vehicles available with the said paint protection. We combed through Rivian’s inventory using zip code 33101 (Miami) and found four R1T trucks with the Stealth PPF available; there isn’t one R1S with this option in the said area.
Other zip codes will likely have a healthier inventory, but for customized builds, the Stealth PPF will likely revert to its $5,000 price tag unless Rivian decides otherwise.
