Alfa Romeo 4C Morphs Into Limited-Production Abarth Classiche 1300 OT

Key Takeaways

  • Abarth Classiche 1300 OT announced as five-unit special edition.
  • Special edition is based on discontinued Alfa Romeo 4C.
  • Styling references original Fiat-Abarth OT 1300 ‘Periscopio’ racecar.

Stellantis Heritage has announced a new project to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Abarth: the Abarth Classiche 1300 OT. This new special edition draws direct inspiration from the Abarth 1000 SP special edition, which was first announced in 2021 in celebration of the 1960s model. At the time, the 4C-based special edition was meant to be a one-off, but it was soon greenlit for a production run of five units, and now those five units are to be joined by another five cars with subtle changes. At this point, no example of the Abarth Classiche 1300 OT has yet been completed, but a 1:3 scale model of the car will form part of a Heritage Hub exhibition.

What Is The Abarth Classiche 1300 OT?

As part of the Reloaded by Creators project, this special edition is focused on design, so don’t expect any changes from the Alfa Romeo 4C’s standard powertrain. For the record, that is a 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 237 horsepower, but there won’t be much weight to lug around because the body is made of carbon fiber. This engine is fed, in part, by a roof scoop that calls to mind the original “periscope” intake from the 1968 Abarth OT 1300.

Even Fiat admits that this car dispels the notion that designers are only interested in styling and looks.

A slotted plexiglass rear window and a large rear grille help to evacuate heat from the engine bay, while the front of the car boasts a vented hood, integrated headlights, and a subtle splitter. Scoops on the shoulders further aid cooling, while retro wheels add more Italian style. A yellow-and-blue livery is evident here, but we suspect buyers will have plenty of freedom when it comes to colors and finishes.

Pricing And Availability

The five-unit special edition is available to order, but Stellantis Heritage has not indicated how much each of these modern Abarth 1300 OT special editions will cost. For the record, pricing for the Alfa Romeo 4C ranged from $37,000 at the lower end of the scale to well over $60k, and with bespoke carbon fiber bodywork and a limited production run, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that pricing could breach six figures. Previous Reloaded by Creators models have included the Fiat Multipla, Fiat 500, and Alfa Romeo 8C. Besides the 500e, none of these Italians are currently offered in America, but the rumor mill suggests that an all-electric 4C successor could be in the cards.
