At the end of March, CarBuzz discovered two new McLaren trademarks – W1 and MP1 – and these were followed by another two similar trademarks – H1 and U1 – less than a month later. Now, CarBuzz has unearthed yet another trademark at the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office, this time for the name “BLOODL1NE.” All of these names have a single digit in common, suggesting that the next halo hypercar produced by Woking will once again use simple numerology to indicate its place at the forefront of automotive performance. This new name appears to be more suited to a marketing tagline, likely accompanied by an explanation of how Woking’s next halo hypercar has the same DNA as the P1 and F1 that came before it.
Four Potential Names Under Consideration
The names U1 and H1 seem unlikely for the next McLaren, but only because we don’t know what they would represent. U1 could be used to suggest that the P1 replacement (internally codenamed P18) is the “ultimate” hypercar, while H1 may be a reference to the hybrid powertrain. The other two names seem more exciting if they mean what we think they could.

W1 could be a reference to McLaren’s Woking headquarters, while MP1 would show clear associations to the P1 hypercar. MP1 would also link the new hypercar to old McLaren F1 cars, which were always prefixed with the letters M and P as a nod of respect to Project Four Racing, a team built by McLaren Automotive founder Ron Dennis. Whatever meaning the new hypercar’s name carries, it seems that McLaren is adamant about retaining the naming convention of previous range-toppers.
What We Know About McLaren P18
Little has been confirmed about the P18, but we know it will be powered by a hybridized Ricardo V8. The hybrid part of that setup will reportedly be 70% lighter than that of the Artura, but although McLaren is said to be “putting everything” into this “totally bonkers hypercar,” Woking is not targeting electric hypercar outputs. We also know that a newly developed carbon fiber monocoque will feature and that the doors will deviate slightly from butterfly-style to gullwing. As for the arrival of the P1 successor, McLaren told us to expect it sometime from the end of 2024.
