TEASER: New Bentley Continental GT Coming In June With 771 Horsepower

Key Takeaways

  • Bentley teases new Continental GT ahead of June reveal.
  • Ultra Performance Hybrid V8 confirmed to produce 771 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.
  • The new Continental GT will be Bentley’s most sustainable car, blending luxury with eco-friendly design.

Bentley is getting ready to reveal the fourth-generation Continental GT. Ahead of the June reveal, the Crewe-based automaker has given us a glimpse of the new grand tourer, which will arrive with a new plug-in hybrid V8 that develops an astonishing 771 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.

That is a massive leap over the outgoing W12 and even outguns the 739-hp twelve-cylinder in the Batur Convertible. Bentley says its new Ultra Performance Hybrid drivetrain will deliver astonishing performance while delivering 50 miles of all-electric range and a CO2 figure of less than 50g/km. It’s worth noting these figures have been calculated on the WLTP cycle, so expect different figures on the EPA cycle.

Advanced Tech Improves Ride And Handling

The Continental GT has always been a supremely comfortable motorcar, but the latest model will turn the sportiness up to 11. The vehicle will benefit from active all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, an electronic limited-slip differential, and four-wheel steering. Through corners, drivers will be thankful for active anti-roll control and advanced dual-valve dampers. This will undoubtedly make the ride more cossetting as well.

Bentley says the new Continental GT will be “the most sustainable” Bentley road car in the company’s history. That suggests an increase in eco-friendly and, perhaps, recycled materials. However, the Bentley faithful shouldn’t fret as the new GT will have all the high-class materials and luxury associated with Crewe-built motor vehicles.

Subtle Styling Updates Inspired By The Bacalar

From a styling point of view, the front fascia will take inspiration from the facelifted Bentayga and the Bacalar, with a circular headlight cluster and a slim horizontal strip stretching out towards the wheels. Aside from that, the new Continental will retain the elegant profile of its predecessor. Naturally, the interior will also receive styling tweaks and updates.

Bentley “Edition 8” Says Goodbye To The Twin-Turbo V8

It’s part of Bentley’s plan to offer hybrids for its full model lineup.

While we’re looking forward to the muscular electrified V8, it will be a shame to see the W12 killed off. A feat of engineering, the unique engine configuration provided Bentley products with plenty of character. That being said, the new engine will be fantastic. We still don’t know what the displacement is, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a variation of the 4.0-liter engine used in the latest Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid. It’s worth noting the standard V8 is also being phased out, as Bentley plans on offering electrified engines exclusively, such as the V6 PHEV available in the Bentayga and Flying Spur.
