Maruti launched the all-new premium hatchback Swift in the market last week. Since its launch, we have been seeing a lot of videos and images of the new Swift on the internet. We all know that the new Swift uses a less powerful engine than the previous generation model. How does it perform with the new engine? Well, we have a video where the all-new Swift competes against a Tata Punch micro SUV in a drag race.
The video has been shared by MRD Cars on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger takes a brand new Maruti Suzuki Swift LXi variant and races it against a Tata Punch AMT. The vlogger starts by talking about the engine specifications of both vehicles.
The Maruti Swift is powered by a 1.2-liter, naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 82 Ps and 112 Nm of peak torque. The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates 86 Bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque.
The race is conducted in multiple rounds. The vlogger is driving the Tata Punch while his friend is behind the wheel of the Swift. The Tata Punch has done around 15,000 km on the odometer, and the Swift is brand new. Both cars are lined up at the starting position. They have opted for an empty stretch of road with no traffic at all.
For the first round, the AC was turned on in both cars. The race starts, and the Swift takes the lead almost immediately. The Punch driver was not very familiar with drag races, and that affected his launch timings. The Tata Punch took off from the start line a bit late. The Swift had taken a massive lead, and the Punch was unable to catch up.
The Swift was announced as the winner of the first round. In the second round, the Tata Punch had a better launch, but even then, the Swift managed to take the lead and maintain it till the end. The vlogger driving the Swift can be heard saying that in the fifth gear, the acceleration in the Swift is not very aggressive and is more useful for cruising on the highways. It was only after engaging the fifth gear that the Punch was able to overtake the Swift.
For the third round, the AC in the Punch was turned off. This was done in order to enhance performance. We did see a bump in the Punch’s performance. The SUV was moving off the start line more aggressively and was keeping up with the Swift. However, this is the AMT version, which means the car has a brain of its own, and that was affecting the performance too. At no point was the Punch able to overtake the Swift.
Even in the last round, the results remained the same. In fact, in all the rounds, the Swift managed to perform well even with the AC on. One of the main reasons why the Swift won despite generating less power and torque is because of the weight and design.
The Swift is extremely lightweight, and the aerodynamic design also helped the car. On the other hand, the Punch is heavy and has a boxy design, which creates more drag and slows down the car.
