Camouflaged VW Taos Spotted Hiding New Lighting

The Volkswagen Taos is looking to get a bit of a redesign in the near future, and spyshots from our photographers give us our first glimpse of how it could look. Introduced for the 2022 model year, the Taos is the German brand’s smallest crossover. It’s a solid daily driver in a package that could be a little more exciting, like its MX-30 or Subaru Crosstrek competitors. Fortunately, VW is spicing it up in the looks department in the front and the rear.

The camo these companies use to hide their vehicles in plain sight is an interesting topic in its own right, but VW’s approach is better than most because it’s so simple yet effective. This means it’s a tad harder to decipher what the company is hiding, but we at least know what’s being changed.

Updated Front And Rear

This facelift appears to focus on the front and rear of the vehicle, with the sides unchanged. Using stickers that feature the designs of the current model, the company has taped over the upper front fascia and headlights to give us very little to go off of other than the fact we know whaterver they’re hiding has to be the good part.

The bumper is uncovered, showing us a new design that surprisingly looks a bit different from the one on the upcoming Tiguan. We believe the stickers on the upper fascia and headlights are hiding a new singular light strip that will go across the length of the grille and bisect the headlights.

Moving to the rear, we have more stickers, but the overall design looks the same. To keep it cohesive with the front, we imagine it will also have a strip of light that runs across the width of the vehicle.

VW Has Big Plans This Year

The facelifted Taos will be unveiled at some point in the second half of this year, and by that time it should be joined by many different new VW products that are sure to enhance the lineup. Its closest sibling, the Tiguan, is set to debut an all-new generation model based on the Chinese Tayron, bringing an enhanced size and a better internal layout as many of the annoying haptic controls have gotten the boot.

More importantly, more EVs are on the way, with the ID.7 and ID.Buzz finally gracing our shores. The first will be an electric sedan that will have similar proportions to the Toyota Crown, and similar power as it will be packing up to 335 horsepower in AWD versions. We’re more excited about the ID.Buzz, though, as it’s the first time in decades the brand is offering a classic VW van in the US (we try to forget about the Routan.) This model will bring retro styling and a host of innovative features and materials to the VW lineup.
