Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO, the updated version of the XUV 300, in the Indian market on April 29. The brand markets this car as a sub compact SUV so today we will discuss regarding the offroading capabilities of the XUV 3XO via a YouTube video uploaded by MRD Cars.

Let’s talk about the engine and power figures first. Mahindra has offered three engine options in the XUV 3XO which are the same as the XUV 300. The petrol engine options include a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit, which produces 110 PS & 200 Nm, and a much powerful 1.2-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engine which delivers a power output of 130 PS and 250 Nm of torque.

The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre unit producing 117 PS & 300 Nm of torque. The transmission options with the petrol engine include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AT. On the other hand, the diesel engine is mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AMT.

Please note that this car does not come with a 4WD or AWD option in any of its variants. Mahindra has offered the XUV 3XO with the FWD option only. Additionally, this is not an off-road focused car. The XUV 3XO is suitable for mild off-roading or rough terrains only.

Now, let’s talk about the video. The car is made to cross a small canal like area which is filled with water. The car shown in the video is the less powerful 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The SUV is slowly driven into the pit to cross the canal. It easily enters the pit but while exiting the front bumper of the car touched the ground.

This highlights that the approach angle of the car is not suitable for off-roading adventures. Even after being stuck in mud, the car easily manages to pull itself out without any issues.
A second attempt is made from the same spot.

It is noticed that due to the mud the car sinks in the ground by a marginal amount. Due to this the car gets stuck. Similar to the first attempt, due to the approach angle of the car, it fails to cross this basic obstacle.

This video was not a proper off-roading test and there were no other cars for comparison. However, the host mentions that Tata Harrier and Safari managed to cross this obstacle easily but they belong to a completely different segment.

From this video, we can conclude that the Mahindra XUV 3XO is best suitable for mild off-roading and rough terrains. You can take this car to the mountains but driving on places where roads are nonexistent may be a task.

If you are looking for a proper off-roader in the similar price range you can check out the Mahindra Thar, Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, these cars would not match the comfort level and the features which the 3XO offers.

Deliveries of the Mahindra XUV 3XO will commence this week. The compact SUV managed to clock an impressive 50,000 bookings in just one hour of bookings going live.
