Most Expensive Options On The 2024 BMW 7 Series

BMW’s 7 Series is the brand’s flagship, full-size luxury sedan that competes with Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class and Audi’s A8. The 2024 BMW 7 Series is so luxurious and full of features that you could almost see it as a more affordable Rolls-Royce. When we drove the top-spec model a few months ago, it felt a lot like a Rolls-Royce Ghost.

The 760i xDrive sedan may have lost its V12 engine, but it remains an impressive luxury car. Starting at $121,300, it’s significantly cheaper than a Rolls-Royce Ghost, but you do have to add a few optional extras to get that ultimate luxury experience. That’s why we hopped on to BMW USA’s online configurator to find the five must-have options and how much they add to the price.

There are two option packs, the cheaper Premium and Executive packs, which cost $1,750 and $3,700 respectively. The Executive pack requires the Premium pack, which means that the cost of both packs gets added at checkout, resulting in a total cost of $5,450. However, although some are more useful than others, you get a lot of optional goodies in the deal. The Premium pack’s driving assistant includes adaptive cruise control with automatic braking, while the parking assistant can learn to maneuver and park the car itself, even with the driver outside the vehicle. Its illuminated kidney grille, like the Swarovski-inspired’ Crystal Headlights’, is purely for aesthetic benefits, while the Executive pack’s front massaging seats and automatic, self-opening/closing doors offer a lot of extra comfort and convenience for the additional outlay.

Two Tone Options

While the total cost of the Executive pack is steep, it pales in comparison with the $12,000 two-tone metallic paint finish. It is a striking exterior design that adds flair to the 7 Series’ professional and serious vibe but comes at an equally serious cost. Two color combinations are available, pushing the price of the 7 Series to over $130,000 before any other options are added. Around 12 different exterior colors can also be chosen without even considering this pack, of which seven colors are free of charge, while the rest range from $1,950 to $5,000. They make the two-tone color option look expensive indeed. However, the two-tone option is far cheaper than the total cost of the following few options.

Rear Executive Lounge Seating Package: $7,250 ($20,500 With Pack, Total Price: $142,880)

BMW’s Rear Executive Lounge Seating Pack is well worth it for the price and the options listed above if you are a busy executive, but unfortunately, it also hides a hidden cost. As with most manufacturers, opting for one option often requires adding other packs (as in the case of the Executive pack from earlier). The Rear Executive Lounge Seating Pack’s price of $7,250 adds a total of $20,500 to the cost of the car since it also requires adding options such as the Premium/Executive packs, the Luxury Rear Seating pack, and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system. Since the Rear Executive Lounge pack mandates these options and their associated costs, it makes it an expensive choice. Even so, the 31-inch screen is a significant highlight, making the overall cost easier to swallow for those who need to unwind on the highway between meetings.

Alcantara Headliner In Upholstery Color: $1,050 ($28,950 With Pack, Total Price: $150,250)

The Alcantara Headliner in upholstery color:

• Adds a luxurious headliner in Alcantara material to match the chosen upholstery color elsewhere in the cabin
• Requires a large additional cost related to extra required packs/options
• It is also available in anthracite, which is otherwise an identical option without the extra required packs

This next option is the most shocking when added to the 7 Series, making it the biggest overall cost increase to the car, considering its modest initial price. The ‘Alcantara headliner in upholstery color’ essentially adds a luxurious Alcantara headliner in the upholstery color, which is also customizable by the buyer at a specified cost. For a simple option at a modest price of $1,050, the Alcantara headliner could be the ideal cheap upgrade to impress the car’s occupants for little outlay. However, it requires adding a plethora of other options, just like the Executive Lounge pack above. In this case, the cost rises from the 7 Series’ base price of $121,300 to more than $150,000, effectively making this headliner a $29,000 option.

Black Merino Leather / Dark Gray Cashmere Upholstery: $6,450 ($28,950 With Pack, Total Price: $150,250)

• This applies to the seating material used for both the front and second-row
• Part of the complete Merino leather interior upholstery option list, with contrasting colors and cashmere/leather material
• Black/dark gray cashmere blend also applies to Smoke White/light gray blend with the same associated costs and increases

For what is essentially a contrasting leather and cashmere upholstery trim, the $6,450 option (available in smoke gray or black) is a pricey option to add since it immediately pushes the price up to over $150,000, thanks once again to the plethora of other required options. Just like the Alcantara headliner in upholstery color, it is a way to add around $29,000 to the 7 Series total cost in one click. The optional interior trim is attractive, though, and for those who wish to make the best impression possible, it could be just a necessary part of the build process.

Is The BMW 7 Series Still Worth Buying Considering Its Potential Price?

The most expensive options for the BMW 760i xDrive range from $5,450 for the Executive pack to around $29,000 for the special headliner and leather/cashmere trims. The most expensive standalone option is the two-tone paint, which is $12,000 without any extra required packs. The BMW 7 Series is a flagship premium sedan, and its demographic will not likely be swayed by the price of options and for what’s on offer, the car speaks for itself. Since it is aimed at busy execs, the 7 Series is arguably the most complete with its optional comfort features, rather than the shouty two-tone paint, driver’s convenience options, or sporty upgrades such as ‘M’ brakes. We would avoid the $12,000 two-tone paint that is at odds with the 7 Series’ refined nature. Considering the extra options added, the pricey Alcantara headliner and Merino leather/cashmere upholstery are still likely worth it for the average CEO.
