The current BMW M3’s bucktoothed grille caused controversy when it was revealed for the 2021 model year, but BMW is sticking with its polarizing design as it gives the long-running sports sedan a light refresh. Along with a minor restyling of the headlights, the 2025 M3 adds BMW’s iDrive 8.5 infotainment software and a 20-hp boost for the M3 Competition xDrive.
The M3 retains its twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, which now offers three power outputs. The base rear-wheel-drive model—the only version fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox—continues with 473 horsepower, while the RWD Competition variant also stays the course with 503 ponies. But the all-wheel-drive M3 Competition xDrive goes from to 503 to 523 horses, which BMW says is the result of a reconfigured engine management system.
The M3’s torque peak has also been expanded, with all 479 pound-feet now available from 2750 to 5730 rpm. BMW claims the xDrive can blast from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed remains limited to 155 mph, with the optional M Driver’s Package increasing it to 180 mph.
The visual changes are subtle, with new headlights that have similar angular LED elements as the latest M4, which serve as the daytime running lights and turn signals. There are also new forged alloy wheel options that are available in silver. Competition models gain a silver border around their badge.
Inside, the M3 is fitted with a redesigned three-spoke leather steering wheel, which keeps its red center marker at the 12 o’clock position but now has a flat-bottomed rim. Drivers can also spec Alcantara instead of leather. The latest iteration of BMW’s operating system now runs on the curved display with a simplified climate-control interface. The improved voice assistant can now adjust the climate settings, and the air vents themselves have been tweaked.
Production of the 2025 BMW M3 will begin in July. The RWD model now starts at $77,175 while the Competition will cost $81,375, both up by $180. Opting for the AWD Competition xDrive sees the price rise to $86,475—an $1180 increase from 2024. The M3 CS is also discontinued, with production ending in the first quarter of this year.
