Mahindra Thar is one of the most affordable and capable 4×4 SUVs one can buy in India. The current generation of this lifestyle SUV was launched in 2020, and since then, it has been a powerful player in the market. It is a commonly found SUV in almost every off-road expedition group in India. We have come across several modified versions of Thar in the past. Here, we have one such video where a Mahindra Thar has been modified into a monster.
The video has been uploaded by Torque Block on their YouTube channel. In the video, the vlogger talks to the owner of the Mahindra Thar about the massive tires on the SUV. The owner mentions that his SUV is using Radar Renegade RT tires. He mentions that these tires are suitable for Indian roads and they also perform well during off-roading.
Other than that, the owner has completely upgraded the suspension and is using a lift kit. The lift kit has been imported from the USA and is the same unit used in a Jeep Wrangler. The owner mentions that they have reinforced the chassis and have also installed an electric winch that can pull up to 15 tons.
The front grille and the headlamps are aftermarket units. Similarly, the front bumper is also off-road spec. The owner also mentions that they have installed disc brakes at the rear for better performance. The car gets 17-inch steel rims with 37-inch tires on it. The tires and the lift kit combined offer a maximum of 7 inches lift to the vehicle.
This completely changes the stance of the SUV. It now looks like a monster truck ready to conquer any terrain. The owner has also gone for a performance upgrade. It gets a stage 2 tune from Code6, which has increased the power by 20 bhp. The owner is so happy with the project that he says his Mahindra Thar is modified in such a manner that it is better than a Jeep Wrangler.
Mahindra Thar
Mahindra offers Thar with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 4×4 variant of the SUV is available with a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 130 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The petrol version uses a 2.0-liter mStallion turbo engine that generates 150 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 4×2 or RWD variant of the Mahindra Thar uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine which generates less power and torque. It is available with a manual gearbox only. The petrol engine remains the same as the 4×4 variant.
Mahindra Thar 5-door
Mahindra is also working on a 5-door version of Thar for our market. It is a much more practical version of this popular SUV and is expected to be launched in the next couple of months. Just like the 3-door version, Mahindra will be offering the 5-door Thar with 4×4 and 4×2 variants. The lower variants are also likely to get the 1.5-liter diesel engine. Both petrol and diesel engines on this SUV are likely to be retuned for the 5-door version.
