Kia Sonet on a slippery slope

We often come across several discussions online where people argue about the performance of their vehicles. Some of them settle this discussion by conducting drag races or using other methods. Petrol, diesel, hybrid, CNG, and electric vehicles are all different in nature, and that is evident in their performance too. Here we have a video where a YouTuber tests the performance of petrol, diesel, and electric SUVs on a slippery slope to see which of these vehicles can handle it without much drama.

The video has been shared by Arun Panwar on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger takes a Kia Sonet petrol, Kia Seltos diesel, and a Tata Nexon EV to a small hill near his place. The aim was to test the performance of each of these vehicles and see if these SUVs could climb up the slippery slope on the hill.

The Kia Sonet was the first to be driven as part of the test. If you notice carefully, the trail on which the car was being driven is full of loose rocks and soil. This makes things difficult as the car could easily lose traction and not move forward. He starts driving the Kia Sonet uphill and stops in the middle.

He mentions that with enough momentum, any car can drive up this section. However, the real test only happens when you try to resume the journey after stopping in the middle. He stops the car in the middle and asks his brother to get out and record the video from outside. The Kia Sonet seen here is powered by a 1.2-liter NA petrol engine that generates 82 Bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque.

All the SUVs used for this test are front-wheel drive. The SUV struggles a bit as the loose rocks on the trail slide away when the car attempts to move forward. However, the driver pushed the accelerator hard, and the SUV finally found traction and went up the hill. It was extremely dramatic, and the small SUV did struggle.

Next was the Kia Seltos diesel. The test was conducted in the same manner. The vlogger stopped the SUV halfway up the slope. The Kia Seltos is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 115 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The SUV stopped on the slippery slope before the vlogger continued his test.

As he attempted to drive the car forward, the diesel SUV couldn’t find traction and started going sideways. However, once it found grip, the Seltos went up the hill without any issues. In both the Seltos and Sonet, the dashboards of the SUVs were making a lot of noise, and it felt like they were falling apart because of the uneven surface and all the pressure that was being put on the car.

Last was the Nexon EV. The vlogger drove the car up the slope and stopped it. As you know, the Nexon EV only comes with an automatic transmission. The vlogger was under the impression that the SUV might not perform well. However, it was the only SUV that did well. As the vlogger pressed the accelerator, the front wheels did not spin out of traction. The SUV was in city mode, and the traction control was working perfectly.

Once the wheels found traction, the Nexon EV simply crawled up the slippery slope. In fact, the SUV was on low-resistance tires, and even then, it did not lose traction and climbed up. The vlogger was surprised by the performance and said he never thought the SUV would climb up effortlessly. The Nexon EV, in fact, won this slippery slope test.
